Introduction |
Hi! My name is Kim. My husband and I are in the process of adoption two little boys from Russia.
First, I will give you a little family background. My husband and I have been married for 14 1/2 years. We have four children, 3 girls and a boy. The oldest is 11. We have always felt that God wanted us to have another child. We have talked about and been considering adoption for quite some time, but had never felt led to pursue it until October. In October, we put in an application with an adoption agency. Soon we fell in love with not one, but two, little boys from Russia. What a shock!! However, we really felt like God was placing them both on our hearts. Then we saw the price tag! Whew!!!
We talked and decided it was impossible. Then we remembered the verse that says, "With God all things are possible." After attending church services and Bible studies the next day, we felt led to take a step of faith. We decided to be obedient to what God was telling us to do and try to rescue these precious boys from their life in a remote Russian orphanage. Both boys are said to be in good health and very sweet little boys. They like things that normal little ones like, cars, books, swings, etc. I look at their pictures several times a day and wonder if they are warm, if they have enought food, if they are well, if they've been hugged.
We have done several things to begin the process. First, we have made a contract with the adoption agency. We also have applied for our I-600A with the INS to expedite the process. Lastly, we have turned in all of our paperwork and started the home study process.
We have no idea how we will raise the money needed to rescue these boys and to get us to Russia to get them. In addition, we will have to get a larger vehicle, our minivan will soon be too small for 8 people, 3 with car seats. We will also have other smaller things, like a bigger kitchen table, beds for the boys, clothing, etc. We believe that God will provide for all of our needs if He truly wants these little ones to grow up in our household. One website I visited said, "If God calls you to adopt, He will make a way to provide the ransom." I believe that.
My husband and I are neither one very talented with fundraising endeavors. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, we'd love to hear them. There are many grants that can be applied for after the home study is done and the dossier is completed. However, it may be the end of January before ours is done. Our first trip to Russia is supposed to be in the early to mid spring. This is also a bad time of year to be trying to raise money because of the holidays. However, if anyone knows of anyone who is in need of a big end of the year tax write-off, let us know ;-) !! We are in the process of setting up an account with our church so that all donations would be tax deductible.
Well, that tells you a little about us and what we're doing. If anyone has been through the process or has any ideas or suggestions, we'd love to hear from you. We would also greatly value any prayer.
