2 Part Post- Rain, Gotcha Day |
PART 1: RAIN, RAIN, AND MORE RAIN OUR "POND" OUT FRONT
My garden is sure growing, but some of it is taking a real beating! Another pic of the front yard. It has been raining in our area for 16 straight days. We've received more rain in a consecutive period than ever before for our area in history. We are on the verge of hitting our average ANNUAL rainfall total in the next couple of days. Over the last few years, Oklahoma has experienced great drought in the summertime, going tons of days without any moisture. Now, when we are used to 90s/100s and dry, we're in the 70s with no end in sight to the rain. Swimming pools are closed, lakes and rivers are out of their banks. All we hear on the news is about flooding, crazy people who risk driving into high water, and the forecast of more rain. Our yard is beginning to look like a pond. We're a little worried about our septic system. Some people's trees are even being uprooted and toppled over because the ground is so saturated. Today, Z asked me when it was going to stop raining. It was a good object lesson on Noah and the Ark. We tried to imagine how it must have been back then and were grateful that God will never flood the earth again. I know our sunny days will be coming soon. PART 2: GOTCHA DAY ?S Our first "Gotcha Day" is coming up soon. We were officially declared L and El's parent on the 4th of July. We didn't actually get them until July 14, that's the date on all of the paperwork. Therefore, I have some questions: 1. Is July 4 or July 14 our Gotcha Day? (We think July 4. ) 2. How do you/will you celebrate your Gotcha Day, especially the first one? I wanted to do it up big and thought it would be easy because it was a day everyone gets together with friends and family. However, the problem is...everyone gets together with friends and family. Any ideas? I know it will be a fun day no matter what. I know they will think the fireworks are for them. I did find out today that I think my parents might come down to help us celebrate! |

Contrasting Songs |
Okay, this post is going to be a little off the ordinary, but it is something that has been gnawing at me a lot recently. At the gym that I coach at, music is constantly playing in the background. Depending on who gets in the gym first, we may have to listen to rock, country, or anything else. I prefer Christian pop/rock music- the same good beat, much better lyrics. In fact, many times, I have found the lyrics coming from the stereo very appalling and even embarrassing. I can't believe some of the stuff that is played over the open air. What's worse is when the 6- 12 year old kids I coach are singing the lyrics religiously.
Anyway, recently it has been set on country. One song keeps coming on over and over. It is a fun little tune with a good sound, but when you really pay attention to the lyrics, it kind of hit me hard. The song is "I Wanna Talk About Me". I understand the gist behind the song is that the woman is talking incessantly about herself and the man wants a turn, but the heart behind it bothers me.
Here are the lyrics of the chorus:
I wanna talk about me, I wanna talk about I I wanna talk talk about number one, old my me my What I think, what I like, what I know, what I want, what I see How I like talkin' 'bout you you you you usually But occasionally, I wanna talk about me I wanna talk about me (me me me me me) I wanna talk about me (me me me me me) You you you you you you you you you you you I wanna talk about me
I had just listened to that song in the gym today again, then I got in my car to drive home. I have a new Passion Praise and Worship CD and here's the lyrics to the song that was on when I turned on the car.
It's all about You, Jesus And all this is for You For Your glory and your fame It's not about me As if You should do things my way You alone are God And I surrender to your ways
Do you see the difference as blatantly as I do? Our world seems so focused on ME, I, MY. How can we serve God if our focus is on ourselves so much? I am just as guilty as anyone. I desire to be selfless, always giving in everything, but my sinful nature always seems to step in. I get jealous, greedy, and prideful. Wouldn't our world be a much better, much different place to live if we took the focus off of me, I and my and put it all on Him. This is my true heart's desire. Forgive me Father when I fail. |

Books for Kenyan/Liberian Schoolchildren |
Some of you may remember that at the HOPE Symposium on May 20, we were approached by some Kenyan ladies for some help. The one lady wanted textbooks for a school that her brother runs in Kenya. He teaches approximately 100 children with very little help and no funds. The children have never seen a schoolbook.
There were a bunch of homeschoolers having a book sale nearby at the end of May. I called the organizer of the sale and asked if I could set a few boxes out if anyone wanted to donate anything they didn't sell when the day was done. She called me back that afternoon and told me to bring more boxes.
We are still working on shipping possibilities as it is very expensive. We have joined with the Shine Foundation who helps children in war-torn Liberia. They are also collecting books for the school they built there. We haven't worked out all of the logistics, but hopefully these African children in Liberia and Kenya will have some schoolbooks in the future.
CHECK OUT THE DONATIONS!!! These are mostly reading books.
These are textbooks of every kind and every level. Believe me, homeschooling curriculum is not cheap. This is a huge blessing! If you have time click on the link above for the Shine Foundation. Wow! |

Readoption |
On June 1, we readopted the bwins in Oklahoma. This was a formality that will help in the future when we need birth certificates, etc. The process was extremely painless and lasted all of a minute or less. We made application about 6 months before, paid a small fee, and brought post placements with us. D's attorney skills came in quite handy for this. He was our legal representative. He even brought the statutes about readoption in Oklahoma for the judge to read since this is not a common everyday practice. Basically, D signed, I signed, the judge signed and it was over. I asked for a picture since we were not allowed photos in or around the courtroom or even courthouse in Russia. We did not even see our new sons on the day of our adoption. Therefore, the Oklahoma judge obliged, put on his official black robe, and posed for an adoption picture. Thanks Judge!
We made it a family affair! This a pic of the kiddos all waiting to go into the judge's office. What a great crew! |

7 year old J |
I am trying to play blogger catch-up now.
This post is dedicated to my oldest son, J. He was the easiest birth, easiest baby, and has been the easiest child in the world so far. God has given him the most worry-free, laid back nature that I have ever seen. He is kind, gentle, loving, sensitive, and understanding, yet he is all boy! He is truly an absolute joy and blessing.
J's birthday was June 13. He turned 7 years old. Around our house, we don't do friend parties every year (a lesson I learned from a dear friend who also has a large brood). It is just too costly with our number of children. In addition, they don't need all of the stuff that piles up from birthday gifts each year. We make sure they feel special with love and family gifts, but we are not into spoiling and overindulging. On the off years that they do not have a friend party, they are allowed to invite one friend to stay the night and we celebrate that way. This year was an off year for J.
Here's J on the left, his friend in the middle, and L on the right getting ready for birthday cookie! Watch out world, the Spidermen are on the loose! J and his friend outside. He is from our church. They are the same age and are good buds! J also lucked out this year because our church took a field trip to the zoo on his bday. We got discount tickets and went with our dear friends (the ones who are now in China getting their little girl). H was gone at church camp so she is not included in the picture below. Upon arriving home from the zoo, it was time for dinner, presents, and more cookie cake. The kids always get to pick their favorite dinner for their birthday meal. J picked tacos. He even gave up eating pizza with the church at the zoo for mom's tacos. Then it was present time. J got this outdoor adventure kit that he had been wanting and a scooter. The tent is tiny and has been set up in his room ever since. He sleeps with his head in it and his feet hanging out every night. He is really into science-type activities. He got a Star Theater from his MeMa and PaPa, at his request. His daddy couldn't be happier. They lay in the dark study several nights per week and learn about the universe. BONUS PIC AND INFO: This is J with his first ever trophy. Last night he had his end-of-the-season t-ball party and received this trophy. He was thrilled beyond measure. Can you tell? Thank you God for your precious gift of my son, J! |

Summer Craziness |
CATCHING SOME SUMMER RAYS
LEARNING TO LOVE THE WATER (WITH A FEW PURPLE LIPS) TOO MUCH FOR ONE DAY! Well, just as every other year, I think summer will be a time to relax and get caught up. It has been so busy! Actually, I have had a lot more time to read and enjoy some relaxation time. That has been good. I guess it has been a different kind of busy. I have several projects I would like to accomplish, but haven't even started yet. We have been enjoying swimming this year and I'm working on teaching L and El how to swim. They are getting more comfortable with the water now. In fact, L is a little fish. It's almost dangerous. The boys wear floaty suits and can go anywhere and do anything in a pool. I keep trunks under their floaty suits for when we can do lessons. One day, we were getting ready to have a lesson and L just had his trunks on. I was watching him very closely and was near enough to grab him. He jumped off the last step thinking it was no different. He floundered a second before I scooped him up and explained that he didn't have his suit on and couldn't swim. It was a good little lesson. Actually though, last week they both jumped off the side, went all the way under, and swam to me about 7 feet away. I was proud of that. At the beginning of the season, they didn't want to put a big toe in the water. El is more cautious than L, but has also been doing very well.
Gym is now in the mornings and all of the kiddos come with me. Every morning we are gone to the gym from 8:30-noon. Our afternoons seem to be filled with swimming, cleaning, doctor's appointments, etc. We are definitely enjoying being home every night together as a family. That's the best!
My computer finally died a slow and ugly death and is little more than a glowing machine at the present. I have now moved to D's computer, but am still getting used to it. I need to learn how to deal with pictures on his computer. Hopefully, I will be running at full speed soon. It has been an exciting week in the adoption arena with my friends. Margaret gets Slugger forever today. Also, our dear friends, the Gillelands, are in China getting their new daughter, Kendal Hope Yan Gilleland. They are pretty much family to us. You can check out their journey at http://www.kendalhope.com/. There are all kinds of cool pictures from China on there. They are getting to go to a free Steven Curtis Chapman concert in Beijing on Saturday evening. Donations will be taken to benefit orphanages in China. Pretty cool!! Hope everyone's summer is going well and you're keeping cool. We have not had typical Oklahoma summer here. It has rained more than it has shined. All of the lakes, rivers, etc. are extremely high and dangerous. Hopefully, the clouds will roll away and the sun will step in soon! The pics above were taken on L and El's birthday. |

No Training Wheels |
We interrupt the birthday news and postings to announce that L and El both rode their bikes without training wheels today. They were the fastest learners yet. There's only one problem: when they fall off, they can't get back on. The bikes are too tall. Oh well, they're great riders. Way to go, L and El! |

Birthday- Part 1 |
Well, I know everyone has been waiting on birthday pics. I am having MAJOR computer problems and it crashes on me a million times every day. It makes it virtually impossible to accomplish anything on the computer. We've also been very busy with some life changes and scheduling adjustments with the coming on of summer.
Anyway, hopefully, I will get this posted before my computer goes out again.
L and El had their first birthday party last week at our church. Our church has an amazing Children's Ministry. We are so incredibly blessed by God to be a part of His work there. The entire children's center is done up like a castle and its theme is "Kingdom Kids". The kids' church is held in "The Palace." One of the ministries our church offers to our children is a place to have birthday parties. The parents do and bring everything, but the Kingdom Kids facility is open to be used. There are video games, inflatables, music, video, the "Creamery" for cake and ice cream and the whole Palace area just for kids.
There is an older couple in our church that is just precious. They love children and dress up like clowns and put on magic performances for the children's ministry. They also do birthday parties. They are funny and really mezmorize the kiddos. (They are also the ones who raised money to help with L and El's dental bills when they first came home.) Anyway, they were a highlight of the day.
Playing with video games and obviously making "car" sounds. Checking out the clown's horn. El and L posing for "Picasso" to paint their picture. All 3 boys being "volunteers" for the magic show. I am now going to feel fortunate that my computer hasn't crashed yet and I will wrap it up for now. I hope to have more pics and catch up with everyone soon. Some things that I hope I can blog are a trip to the dino museum with my mom, the results of book sale donations for the Kenyan school, readoption of El and L here in Oklahoma, more of El and L's birthday, and J's birthday which is this week. |

Six Years Ago |
Six years ago today, twin boys were born to a 30 year old woman in Russia. According to our records, they weighed in at approximately a whopping 2 1/2 and 3 pounds. They would spend their next 3 years plus a little living with their grandmother. Their grandmother would eventually have her daughter's maternal rights terminated and would place them in a Russian orphanage. There, one of them would undergo 3 surgeries and they would be separated quite a bit. Until one day when they were almost 5 years old and a family would learn about these two precious boys. God would place these boys on the parents' hearts and would lead them to a small remote orphanage to meet them. A few months later they would come home to live with their forever family.
Today, they are still very small, weighing in at 28.8 and 29 pounds and measuring 39 1/4 inches and 39 3/4 inches tall. The shorts they are wearing in the picture(will post later, having Blogger trouble) are size 18 months, the only thing that will stay up on them. Their shirts say, "Little Guys Rule".
Today, they will go swimming for their birthday at the local pool, pass out birthday cookies at gym, open presents from all of their siblings and their parents, and will know without a doubt that they are loved.
Today, they will play with all of the toys they received at their first birthday party a few days ago, including a Kawasaki 12-volt 4-wheeler given by all of our church small group.
Today, we will all be thankful to God for bringing us together as a family.
Happy Birthday L and El! |

Good news |
Here's a quick update on the De Lorenzo family since I had mentioned their need for prayer in earlier posts:
After months of terrible problems, Stephen's birth mother's rights have been terminated by the courts. They have to wait a few weeks for finalization, then from what I understand, they can go get their son. She has decided to make her blog public again.
Thank you God for giving them Stephen and for giving Stephen a good home. |
